INSTALLING SOFTWARE

PLEASE NOTE: If you purchased SurveyWorks Pro which is SurveyWorks Pre-Installed on the HP48 you can skip this section.

NOTE: To resolve any possible errors before they begin please RESET your calculator before you install SURVEYWORKS. You can do this by pressing and holding the following keys A F ON

Then release all of them at the same time. Select NO. You now have a CLEAN calculator.

INSTALLING SURVEYWORKS VERSION 3.9 TO THE HP48

First hook up the data transfer cable to the back of

the computer and on the HP48. Next on the HP48 type

SERVER and press ENTER. This will put the HP48 in

server mode. Now simply use a transfer program such

as kermit, HyperTerminal, or you may use the included

HPCOMM program. HPCOMM is shareware. You may use it

to transfer SurveyWorks to your calculator. Please

refer to the HPCOMM.TXT file included with the program

for license information. Note: SurveyWorks is in no

way affiliated with HPCOMM. HPCOMM is simply provided

to the user for an optional tool to transfer

SurveyWorks to the calculator.

The following are instructions for transferring

SurveyWorks to the HP48 using HPCOMM. Simply plug in

your data transfer cable into your computer and HP48.

Next on your HP48 type 9600 BAUD and press ENTER next

type SERVER and press ENTER. Now open HPCOMM. You MUST

CHANGE TRANSFER MODE TO BINARY in HPCOMM. You will

now see a file named SURVEY3.LIB. Simply DRAG & DROP

SURVEY3.LIB with your mouse into the HOME directory on

the HP48. After file transfer is complete exit HPCOMM.

Next on the HP48 press "VAR" then press the "A" key.

Next press the "0" zero key. Next press "STO". Turn the

calculator off and turn it back on. Next type BEGIN and press ENTER.

Congratulations!!! If this is a licensed version type AUTHORIZE and then press ENTER. You must then call 318-727-4796 for your software password. SurveyWorks installation is now complete! If you need don't hesitate to call us for help. (318) 727-4796

note: USER must be turned ON. If it isn’t on you can

turn it on by press the PURPLE SHIFT and the alpha

key which is located just below the ENTER key.

(A)

SIDESHOT(using angle right)

By pressing (A) from the SIDESHOT/TRAVERSE MENU you will then be prompted for Angle Right, Horizontal Distance, and Description. After this is input the point will be stored. This does NOT move your point of occupy. It is only a SIDESHOT ROUTINE.

(B)

TRAVERSE(using angle right)

By pressing (B) from the SIDESHOT/TRAVERSE MENU you ill then be prompted for Angle Right, Horizontal Distance, and Description. After this is input the new point will be stored. This moves your point of occupy to the new point created also updating your BackSight Azimuth and BackSight Bearing.

BEARING SIDESHOT

This allows you to store a new point using a Bearing of either NorthEast, SouthEast, SouthWest, or NorthWest and a horizontal Distance. By pressing ( C) from the SIDESHOT/TRAVERSE MENU you will then be displayed

Select one of the quadrants being A-D and then input the bearing and pressing ENTER. The format should be as follows 88.4515

You don’t have to type any letters for bearings just input the number as shown above.


(D)
BEARING TRAVERSE

Same as above BEARING SIDESHOT only this routine moves you point of occupy to the new point created and changes your BackSight Azimuth and BackSight Bearing.

STAKEOUT MENU

From the MAIN MENU press (E)

This will bring up the STAKE-OUT MENU…

(E) Stake-Out

STAKE A POINT NUMBER

You will be prompted for the point number you wish to stake. After you input this press ENTER. You will then be displayed the Angle Right and Horizontal distance to that point.

 

(B)

INTERSECT A LINE

You will be prompted for the First point on line you

wish to intersect

Next you will be prompted for the 2nd point on the line you

wish to intersect

Next you will be prompted for the Angle Right to the line

After you input the desired angle right to the line

You will then be displayed the distance to line between the

1st and 2nd point on line you input using the angle right

you input.

( C)

OFFSET PT ON AN OFFSET LINE

This is a VERY POWERFUL ROUTINE! We highly recommend you learn this routine. By pressing ( C) from the STAKE-OUT MENU you will be prompted for "1st pt on line?", "2nd pt on line?", "Distance to offset this new line?" Distance along the new line to offset from the 1st point on line". You will then be displayed the Angle Right, Distance, Coordinated, and given the option to STORE this point or update the offset distance along the new line that you have created from the 1st point on the new line. (This works great for staking out buildings, centerlines, offsetting property lines, etc.. VERY NICE ROUTINE.

(D)
STAKE COORDINATES

This routine allows you to stake coordinates without having to store a new point. Press (D) from the STAKE-OUT MENU and you will be prompted for Northing and Easting then the Angle Right and Horizontal Distance will be displayed.

From the MAIN MENU press (F)

This will bring up the COGO MENU…

Pressing (A) from the COGO MENU brings up the following MENU.

Here you can Store New points by inputting X,Y,Z,DESC. This is also where you can look at the points you have SHOT/STORED.

This allows you to view current points in data.

You can recall a certain point number by pressing

(D) from this menu. It will prompt you for the

point number you wish to view. Simply input the

point number you wish to view and press ENTER.

The coordinates and description for that point will

then be displayed. You may also view the next or

last point by pressing (B or E). This toggles

to the next or previous points. If you want to change the ForeSight or Next Point number to use press (C) and input the number you wish to be your ForeSight Number.

 

(B)
INVERSE ROUTINES

Here you can Inverse from Pt# to Pt#, inverse Y,X to Y,X or inverse X,Y to X,Y.

Next press (A)PT->PT

(C)

AZIMUTH->BEARING

This option (Azimuth->Bearing) converts an AZIMUTH into a BEARING.

 

(D)

CALCULATE ACRES

Press (D) from the COGO MENU.

You will then be prompted for the POINT-OF-BEGINNING?

Input the pt number to use for it and press ENTER.

You will then be prompted for NEXT PT?

Input the next point number and press ENTER. You will be prompted for next pt number until the last pt number you input is the same as the Point-of-Beginning.

When you are finished inputting Pt numbers to use

you must input the POINT-OF-BEGINNING again so

that it can do the appropriate calculations.

You will then be displayed the Square FT and ACREAGE of

the point list you input.

 

(E)
ADJUST DATA

Press (E) from the COGO MENU
You are then given two adjustment options.

You can move pts select (A) or if you wish to ROTATE POINTS press (B)
Select (A)MOVE POINTS or (B) ROTATE POINTS

When moving points you will be prompted for the first

point to move and the last point to move. This will be

your RANGE of points to move. Next you will be prompted for

an azimuth to move the points. Next you will be prompted for

a distance to move the points. The points will now be adjusted.

ROTATING POINTS

Rotating your points is the same as the above only

you are prompted for a rotation point, old azimuth,

and new azimuth.


(F)
EXIT

This simply brings you back to the MAIN MENU of SurveyWorks.

By pressing (A) from the SETUP MENU you will then be displayed…

Your point of occupy, backsight azimuth, backsight bearing, and the point number you are backsighting.

(B)

CHANGE INSTRUMENT SETUP

By pressing (B) from the SETUP MENU you will then be prompted for Occupy Pt number? Input the point no. you wish to occupy and press ENTER. You will then be asked for what you wish to back sight. You may select A-C which are…

A=POINT
B=AZIMUTH
C=BEARING

simply press A,B, or C whichever you want to backsight you will then be prompted for the information. After this is input you will then be displayed your current setup info with azimuths and bearings updated automatically. Note: If you backsight a BEARING or an AZIMUTH your BS POINT NO. will always be 0. This is normal.

TRANSFER TO PC

If you want to backup your data or share it with other people you may want to download it to the computer. You can do this by using LevelWorks Data Transfer. This program is available from our web site at www.levelworks.net if you haven’t already purchased. To download data you must start LevelWorks Data Transfer on your computer. Next on the HP48 in the DATA COLLECTION MENU press (A)Transfer to PC

Your Data will then be downloaded to your PC from the HP48 in the following

format...

Just kick back and watch the download. SurveyWorks will notify you with a special BEEP BEEP in order to let you know when the transfer is complete. Depending on the number of points it shouldn’t take more than a minute or so.

(B)

ERASE ALL DATA

When you have backed up your data and are ready to start a new job you will need to ERASE ALL DATA in order to make room for the new data. To erase all data press (B) from the DATA COLLECTION MENU. You will have 10 seconds to cancel. If you don’t cancel it will erase all of your points and create a new job for you to work on. I am currently working on a release that will allow you to have more than one job open at a time. Check at our web site to see when it is available.

( C)
GIVE SURVEYWORKS

Pressing ( C) from the DATA COLLECTION MENU allows you to transfer a DEMO version of SURVEYWORKS to your buddies HP48. Your buddy will be limited to 30 points. If he exceeds this he will be prompted to please register SurveyWorks thus allowing him to store up to 500 points.
