Das Vorwort in diesem Buch stammt von Bernard Parisse: (Zitat)
Sometimes, I am asked this question: why put symbolic manipulation capabilities into a calculator, while specialized computer software for this is now either cheap, or available for free?
In my opinion, a calculator is the most effective way to integrate calculation aids with the teaching of mathematics, because it is both easy to carry out with you and to use in a classroom.
However, using a symbolic manipulation software package is not as simple as its interface could suggest. . . Therefore, having an adequate documentation for it is important. The HP49G user guide describes the computer algebra system very briefly, so this manual is its essential complement: it describes the HP49G from the point of view of someone that "wants to do maths".
In fact, readers interested in maths can read only this book as well, because the author starts with an introduction to the calculator, describes in more detail the computer algebra system commands arranged by purpose (the index allows the reader to find all commands in alphabetical order), and then focuses on programming the calculator in algebraic mode.
Each command is demonstrated by an example, and many of them are leveraged to solve a "baccalaureat" problem. The programming section has several programs, arithmetic programs in particular.
Briefly, this is the manual I should have written if I had enough patience! I thank Renée for carrying it out.

Inhaltsverzeichnis: http://www.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=687639888 (?)Prof. Urroz beschreibt sein Buch Band 1 wie folgt:
This book is the book you need to master science and engineering mathematics with the HP 49 G calculator.
Volume 1 walks you through a basic understanding of the calculator operation, the keyboard functions, operations with real and complex numbers, symbolic manipulation of algebraic objects, polynomials, and fractions. It introduces you to the concepts of objects, lists, functions and programs, providing an excellent introduction to the UserRPL programming language for the HP 49 G. The book also teaches you how to manipulate vectors and matrices, and how to use them to solve vector algebra and linear algebra problems. The chapter on matrices and linear algebra includes eigenvalue operations and matrix decomposition. A comprehensive chapter on graphics and graphics programming is also included. Volume 1 concludes with a chapter on solution of equations that includes pre-programmed features of the calculator and user-developed programs.

Inhaltsverzeichnis: http://www.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=687650277 (?)Prof. Urroz beschreibt sein Buch Band 2 wie folgt:
Volume 2 explains how to use the symbolic, graphic, and numeric abilities of the HP 49 G calculator in the solution of uni-variate differential and integral calculus. This volume covers also multivariate calculus operations, concepts of differential geometry (curves and surfaces in space), vector calculus, and vector analysis. A comprehensive chapter on the solution of ordinary differential equations is also included. This chapter includes Laplace transform and generalized function applications. The chapter on partial differential equations emphasizes the use of Fourier series and transforms in the solution of these equations. The last chapter in Volume 2 explores statistical applications using pre-programmed features such as data reduction, frequency analysis and histograms, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, least-square linear fitting. The chapter on statistical applications includes programs for multi-variate and polynomial least-square fittings and other statistical applications.
The two volumes are populated with applied examples taken from science and engineering applications, including probability functions, engineering mechanics, fluid mechanics, engineering economics, physics, and chemistry.
