First-person shooter for HP Prime.

J3D is a shooter in the spirit of Doom: you walk through a base in first-person view, open doors, pick up health, ammo and weapons, and take down every monster on each level. Four levels, three weapons, three kinds of monsters. Original graphics: no Doom assets.

J3D 1.0 - Quick Tutorial (EN)
=============================

Main menu
- CONTINUE: resumes the saved game, exactly where you left it. Only shown when there is one; its level name is shown under the title.
- NEW GAME: starts on the first level, with the pistol and 3 lives.
- LEVELS: starts again from a level already reached (with the pistol and 3 lives). Levels not reached yet are greyed out.
- CONTROLS: choose your keys. One row per action, up to 4 keys each. Arrows pick the cell, Enter then the new key, Del clears the cell, DEFAULT KEYS restores the original ones. A key does only one thing: giving it to an action takes it from the one that had it, which gets the replaced key in exchange. Esc (pause) and the menu keys never change.
- TUTORIAL: this text. Up/Down scroll one line, Left/Right one page, Enter or Esc goes back to the menu.
- HIGH SCORES: the 8 best scores, with the level where the game ended.
- QUIT: closes the game.
- Up/Down or 8/2 choose, Enter or 5 confirms, Esc quits.

In-game controls (default keys)
- Up / Down (or 8 / 2): move forward, back.
- Left / Right (or 4 / 6): turn. A short press turns slowly (to aim), a held key turns fast.
- 7 / 1 and 9 / 3: strafe left and right.
- 0, ., Shift or +: fire (hold the key to fire at the weapon's rate). You can fire while walking.
- x, - or ALPHA: next weapon, among those you carry.
- 5 or Enter: open the door ahead; go to the next level; play again after dying.
- Esc: pause.

Screen
- The view fills the top of the screen; the crosshair is in the middle and turns red when a monster is in the line of fire.
- The bottom bar shows health, the weapon and its ammo, the monsters still standing, the score, and one red square per life.
- The level title is shown for a few seconds when you enter it.

Weapons and ammo
- Pistol: from the start, one bullet per shot.
- Shotgun: seven pellets in a fan, slow; uses shells. It is on the first level.
- Chaingun: rapid fire; uses bullets. It is on the second level.
- A weapon you pick up goes to your hands and brings some ammo. At most 200 bullets and 50 shells.

Items
- Medkit: +25 health (up to 100).
- Box of bullets: +20 bullets. Box of shells: +8 shells.
- Walk over an item to pick it up; a useless one (full health, ammo at maximum) stays on the floor.
- Barrels are solid and stop bullets.

Monsters
- Ghoul: the average one.
- Brute: slow and very tough; hits hard, at close range.
- Stalker: fast and fragile; fires from afar, weakly.
- A monster that sees you chases you; before firing it aims for a moment: that is the time to take cover. A gunshot wakes up nearby monsters, even if they cannot see you.

Doors
- 5 or Enter opens the door ahead. It closes by itself after 3 seconds, never on you.

Levels
- HANGAR (17 monsters), POWER PLANT (21), REFINERY (29), THE BASE (24).
- When every monster is down the level is complete: 5 or Enter goes to the next one, keeping your health, weapons and ammo. Clear the last one and you win.

Lives
- At zero health you lose a life and the level starts again as you entered it (health, weapons, ammo and score at the entry).
- After the last life the game is over: its score goes into the table.

Score
- Ghoul 100, brute 300, stalker 150.
- Level complete: 1000 times the level number, plus 10 per health point left.
- Victory: 2000 per life left.

Pause and saving
- Esc pauses: RESUME, MAIN MENU or QUIT GAME. Esc also resumes.
- MAIN MENU and QUIT GAME keep the game in partie.txt: position, health, weapons, ammo, lives, score, monsters killed or wounded, items picked up, doors. CONTINUE resumes it, even after the calculator has been switched off.
- A finished game (lost or won) erases the save.
- The scores and the furthest level reached are kept in scores.txt.
- The chosen keys are kept in touches.txt.

Language
- The game follows the calculator language: English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese. In Chinese and Japanese it is shown in English.

Limits
- A single save: quitting a new game replaces the previous one.
