What Has Changed?
- This release introduces support for exact arithmetic involving fractions over a limited range of rational numbers: for example, (1/3)*3 now produces a result of 1 in the Home view, rather than 0.999999999999. The new numeric calculation routines automatically switch to decimal arithmetic when numerators or denominators go beyond the limited range (of approximately nineteen digits). Only some portions of some numerical environments have been changed: these new routines are not used in CAS or Python calculations, but can be used by calculations in the Home view and in the Function app. When multiplied by π, these exact fractions remain exact. For example, the result of calculating COS(1.5π), in radians, in the Home view, is now exactly zero.
- Implicit multiplication can now be inferred for more expressions. For example, “XYSIN(X)” is now accepted as a short form of “X*Y*SIN(X)” and “X(1+Y)” is now accepted as a short form of “X*(1+Y)”.
Other improvements and bug fixes have been made; the above list is not a complete list of all changes.
